1920 was the year women in the United States achieved their goal: they had gained Suffrage. It was also the year history recorded Celian Adian Hunts birth. She was born in Nevis, the seventh child born to the proud parents of Ellen and Peter Griffin. Celian had four sisters and seven brothers.
On Sunday November 6th 2005 she celebrated her 85th birthday. A party was given in her honor by her children. Several members of the Perrine Seventh-day Adventist church as well as friends and relatives gathered together to pay her tribute. Among the many persons who spoke was her grand daughter Vonneda Hendrickson. She explained that Ms. Hunt was more than a grandmother to her. She is firm but loving. Although her grandmother had only a seventh grade education she made sure education became a priority with them. She insisted that they stay in school, do well, and further their education. Her desire is to see her children become productive people.
Ms. Hunt lived in Nevis, St. Croix, Virgin Island, and New York before migrating to Miami, Florida. She joined the Perrine Seventh-day Adventist church and became an instant winner with all the congregants. She is loved by her church family and is known to have a keen sense of humor. She is funny, witty, and encouraging. She rarely misses a Sabbath service or a social event. She has been a Seventh-day Adventist for many years after being baptized as a result of a tent meeting. She is a very independent lady who believes in the power of prayer and spends time praying for her family. She says the highest point in her life is getting to know God for herself. Once she found Him she has never let go. Having worked as a Colporteur she loves to witness and tell others of the soon coming of Jesus. Her favorite verse is For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16.
Ms. Hunt has three children Lydia, Almenis, and Loretta who gave her five grandchildren, Vonneda, Alton, Alan, Earl, and Claire. Her great grandson is Lawrence. This proud mother, grandmother, and great grandmother has lived through the Great Depression, W.W.11, the Vietnam War, The Korean War, The Gulf War and sixteen United States presidents. She has witnessed a multitude of life changes but through it all her faith has remained unshaken. Her desire is to keep holding on, to be true until she sees her Savior and Lord.
