On February the 18th the Westside Community Church of Tampa, Fl held a mortgage burning ceremony. The fourteen year old church began as a small prayer band in 1980 under the direction of Pastor Sumpter Ward who at that time was the pastor of the Mt. Calvary Church. The prayer band, which was comprised of a few members of the Mt. Calvary Church, would meet in the homes of members on the Westside of Tampa. In the Spring of 1991 Pastor Theus Young, then Pastor of the Mt. Calvary Church, held a tent meeting. In May 1991, with the souls won from the tent effort, prayer band was organized into a company. In June 1991 the company became the Westside Community Church.
Under the Leadership of Pastor Barry Bonner the church was able to pay off its mortgage with the proceeds of the sale of property owned by the church. The property was acquired with the help of Deacon Lucious Jones. To acquire the property the church had to pay the taxes. |
