Vanessa M. Diambois, a member of the Tabernacle SDA Church, recently received a $62,996.00 academic scholarship from Oakwood College. She received the scholarship at a special Honor’s Convocation at her local high school, North Miami Beach Senior High School.
Carol Byrd, Associate Superintendent of Education for Southeastern Conference, presented the scholarship to Vanessa on behalf of Jason McCracken, Oakwood College Director of Admissions.

Vanessa is a Silver Knight nominee, a National Merit Scholarship finalist, and a National Achievement Scholarship finalist. She plans to attend Oakwood College in the fall where she will major in Biology and pursue her goal to become a geneticist. Oakwood College ranks 9th in the nation when it commes to place people of color in medical school.
A talented student, she is the Student Government Association President and Class Vice President at North Miami Beach Senior High School, where she ranks 5th in her class with a GPA of 5.5.
She scored a 2220 on her SAT test and aced the English (National) AP exam with a perfect score of 5. She also scored a 4 in AP Biology and AP Calculus.
Vanessa is very active in her church, where she has in excess of 1,600 hours in community service. She is also an AYS secretary, a member of the Eternal Praise Youth Choir and always seeks a closer relationship with GOD.
She also volunteers at the Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Young Presidents Club Child Care Center, where she began an Introduction to Poetry program for children ages 2 to 3.
Pastor David Peay, and the Tabernacle church family are proud of Vanessa’s academic achievements. Her family gives GOD all the praise and the honor for Vanessa’s success.
